The Tindall Foundation’s Grassroots Giving Fund - 2015 Funding Round
Auckland Communities Foundation acts as a Regional Funding Manager for the Tindall Foundation and we have just completed this year’s granting round. A large number of applications were received this year for various projects supporting family and social services. The total size of requests for support was in excess of $1.1 million as compared to last year’s $1.2 million . It was interesting to see the various areas of priorities the grants were requested for compared to 2014. We had a larger number of projects that supported youth and early years development as well as migrant, refugee and cross cultural programmes.
Over 25 community members were involved across the 5 regional panels in assessing the grant applications. All panelists are volunteers who give their own time and expertise in considering the applications including visiting some of the charities. To ensure the funding is allocated to areas of highest need, the Grassroots Giving Fund uses thorough and inclusive process for decision making. A total of $334,127 was awarded to thirty five charitable organisations. A wide range of projects were supported including Summerfield’s Charitable Trust in Karaka. Summerfield’s provide a specialised programme for young people affected by trauma and disadvantage. They provide counselling and support in a rural environment using horses and pet animals as a means to engaging with the young people and encouraging empathy, love, care and responsibility. Their stories of connection and engagement with at risk youth were heart-warming and inspiring. They are a real ‘grassroots’ organisation showing how innovation, nurture and community spirit combined can support youth development.
Thank you to all those involved in the process and we wish all the 2015 recipients all the best in supporting the Tindall Foundation vision of a stronger New Zealand.
Applications for 2016 will open on the 1st of April.
